William Hunker Obituary

William A. "Bill" Hunker, 90, a pillar of his community and a beacon of joy to his family, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. Born on July 20, 1935, in Everson, the son of the late Charles Leroy and Ethel Mae Davis Hunker. After graduating from Scottdale Joint High School in 1954, Bill answered the call of duty and joined the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and pride for 3 years and 11 months. Bill served aboard the USS Kearsarge (CVA-33) and attained the Rank of SR. Upon returning to civilian life, he embarked on a distinguished career in the printing industry, finding his lifelong professional home at Williamhouse as a Printer. There, he dedicated over four decades to the craft. Bill's heart was truly revealed in his commitment to his beloved wife of 63 years, Donna L. Schroyer Hunker, whom he married on June 23, 1962. Their union was a testament to unwavering love and partnership, and together they raised a family that became Bill's pride and joy. He was a devoted father to Dean A. Hunker and his wife Ranae, Dennis W. Hunker and his wife Tabitha, Douglas G. Hunker and his wife Kim, and Debra L. Walter and her husband Howard "Howie." The role of grandfather and great-grandfather was one that Bill cherished deeply. His grandchildren—Jeremy Hunker and Danielle, Douglas Hunker and Erin, Rachael and James Marker, Cody Hunker and Courtney, Devan Walter and Brooke, Derek Walter and Kati, Zane Hunker, Audrey Gee and Daniel, Ty Hunker and Carissa, Cameron Walter and Caitlin, and Chloe Hunker —brought him immeasurable joy. His great-grandchildren—Austin, Aliyah, Thalia, Thea, Elouise, Logan, Leena, Jayce and Iris—were a source of boundless pride and happiness. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by His Grandchildren Brady Lee Walter ( Feb. 23, 1996) Brendan “B” Walter (July 19, 2014) And his Brothers, Donald Hunker and Richard Hunker Bill's involvement in his community was extensive and heartfelt. He was a proud member of the Elks, Everson VFW, and Scottdale Fireman's Club. His spirit of camaraderie and his dedication to service were evident to all who knew him. An avid golfer, Bill could be found on the Greens weekly, where he was a member of multiple leagues. His love for the game was only surpassed by his love for the friends he made and the memories he created with each swing and putt. Bill's life was one of unwavering commitment—to his family, his work, and his community. His presence was a warm and comforting constant, a source of laughter, wisdom, and support. He was an amazing husband, dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His legacy is etched in the hearts of those who loved him and in the many lives he touched with his generosity and kindness. William A. Hunker's journey through life was marked by the deep and lasting impressions he left on the world around him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we also celebrate the enduring impact of his remarkable life. He will be remembered with love, respect, and great affection by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
