Robert V. Stanek, known affectionately as Bob by his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at the University of Miami Hospital in Florida. Born on August 13, 1944, in Everson, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Charles J. And Julia Ann Sikon Stanek. Bob's life was one marked by kindness, intelligence, and selflessness, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
Bob grew up in the close-knit community of Everson, where he formed lasting friendships. After graduating from Scottdale High School in 1962, he went on to broaden his horizons at Penn State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1966. His passion for justice and advocacy led him to pursue a legal education at George Washington University Law School, from which he graduated in 1979.
Bob's legal career was distinguished by his commitment to education. As a member of the D.C. Bar Association, he was deeply involved in the legal community. His dedication to nurturing the next generation of legal minds was evident during his tenure as the Associate Dean of George Washington University Law School, a role he held from 1974 until his retirement in 2006. His influence on the students and faculty he worked with was profound and lasting.
Outside of his professional life, Bob shared a loving partnership with John "Ralph" Wallis of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Their years together were filled with joy, mutual respect, and unwavering support. Bob is also survived by his sister, Patricia "Pat" Stanek Mehallick of Everson, and a cherished circle of nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their uncle's generous spirit.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother, Charles J. Stanek, his sister, Rosemary Brownfield, and his brothers-in-law, Michael J. Mehallick and Thomas Brownfield.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11AM in the Partner Parish of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson, with his Cousin, Fr. Michael Sikon as Celebrant. Everyone please meet at the church.
Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Everson.
