Richard A. Mahokey, 82, of Scottdale, Pa, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 19, 2024, in Westmoreland Hospital Greensburg, Pa. Born on June 15, 1942,the son of the late Adolph A. Szczygiel and Ruth J. Horne. Richard lived a full life characterized by his loving, gentle, and generous nature. He was a man who spoke softly but whose actions left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he touched.
Richard was a graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1960. His commitment to his community was evident through his membership in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Scottdale.
Following high school, Richard proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1962. His service was a testament to his sense of duty and patriotism. Afterward, he continued his dedication to serving others as a former member of the Scottdale Fire Department, where his contributions were both valued and appreciated.
Richard's life was made richer by his loving family. He is survived by his children, Richard A. Mahokey, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Murrysville, Kimberly A. Helmick and her husband Thomas of Morgantown, W.V., and Jason D. Mahokey and his wife JoErin of Mt. Pleasant, MI. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply, and he instilled in his children the values of compassion and integrity.
His grandchildren, Christopher Hoover, Nicole Hoover, Adam Hoover, Ryan Mahokey, Brennan Mahokey, and Corder Helmick and his fiancée Jaiden Droddy. Richard's presence as a grandfather was marked by moments of laughter, guidance, and unconditional love.
Richard also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Patricia Sefichik of Scottdale, who will remember him for his kindheartedness and quiet strength. His family will miss his presence dearly, yet take comfort in the knowledge that he lived a life full of meaningful relationships and selfless acts.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Kathleen T. (Kathie) Mahokey (December 27, 1999) and his daughter, Theresa Ann Mahokey (January 3, 1970).
At the request of the family, there will be no Visitation. A Public Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 12PM in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, with Rev. Peter Guardiano as Celebrant. Everyone please go directly to the church.
Full Military Honors will take place at the Church following Mass by the Scottdale-Everson Honor Guard.
Private Burial will immediately follow in St. John Parish Cemetery, Scottdale.
