Patsy Slate Obituary

Patsy A. Slate, 80 of Scottdale, passed away early Friday morning, June 17, 2022 in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant while being comforted by his loving family.

He was born November 23, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy Wilkins Slate.

Patsy attended East Huntingdon High School. Patsy was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Viet Nam War as an E3 with the 2nd Rifle and Weapons Platoon Co. 110 Inf. Bn from 1959 – 1964 when he then enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1964 – 1971. Patsy was a certified EMT and was one of the first EMT’s in the state on Pennsylvania.

He was employed by Duraloy Company, Scottdale for 41 years as a Hot Metal Crane man and was a Part Time Resource Officer for Southmoreland School District for 40 years, until his retirement, when he then became full time for Southmoreland School District.

Patsy was a 50-year member of the Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department serving in many different capacities, such as Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, President of the Fire Department, President of the Fireman’s Club and Captain of Company #2.

He was an Auxiliary Policeman for Scottdale with over 50 years of service.

In his spare time, Patsy enjoyed woodworking in his garage.

Patsy was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and a friend to all who knew him,

Patsy is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him,

His loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Nancy L. Horvath Slate, whom he married, January 31, 1964,

Robert W. Slate of Scottdale

David M. Slate and wife Crystal of Boswell

His Grandchildren:

Zachary Slate, Dakota Wilson and Wife Nikki, Mikayla Shemansky, Austen Rhome, Rebecca Slate, Robert W. Slate, II, Camryn Slate and Stefanie Slate.

His Sister:

Sarah Seaton and husband William “Harry” of Ruffsdale

In addition to his parents, Patsy was preceded in death by:

His Grandson, Alexander M. Slate (Aug. 16, 2008)

His Brother, Ralph Slate

Pasty’s family cordially invites Family and Friends to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, Monday, June 20, 2022 from 2PM –7:30PM at which time his Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home, with Rev. Lee Kline, Pastor of Center Bethel Church of God, Officiating.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that Memorial contributions be directed to the Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department, 317 Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, Pa 15683, in memory of Patsy.

The Scottdale Volunteer Fire Department members will conduct a Memorial Service for Patsy Monday at 6:30 PM in the Funeral Home.  Other Fire Departments are also more than welcome to join them.
