Mary Edna Sherman Mardis Kovach, 95 of Woodcrest Senior Living, Scottdale, PA passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 2:14 am at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born June 2, 1928, in Stahlstown, A daughter of the late Russell Sherman and the late Alice Keller McCurdy and stepdaughter of the late Menota Sherman. Mary was married to Steve Kovach on August 7, 2000, who was a loving and devoted husband while making their home together on Breakneck Rd. in Scottdale until his is death on June 6, 2006. Prior to her marriage to Steve, Mary was a devoted wife to Vernon Thomas Mardis who passed away on July 19, 1984. Together Mary and Vernon lived most of their married lives together in the Ruffsdale area. She is survived by her children: Vernon Thomas Mardis Jr. and his wife Cecilia of Tarrs, Robert Russell Mardis and his wife Donna of Scottdale, Linda Grace and her husband Daniel Cramer of Scottdale, son-in-law Rick Cramer of Abbottstown, William James Mardis and Fred Simpkins of Waynesboro VA, Mary Sue McCabe of Heidelberg PA, David Allen Mardis and Bill Grabiak of Ruffsdale. Three stepchildren Joe Kovach and wife Debbie, Joanne Wilson and Karen Horawitz and husband Gary. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Daughter by choice Darlene Cook and husband Jim And her special beloved cat Fernando. Mary was predeceased by her; First Husband: Vernon Thomas Mardis Second Husband: Master Sgt. Steven Kovach (6-6-2006) Daughter Lillian Mae Cramer Son-in-law Robert McCabe Brother James Sherman and sister-in-law Eleanor Sherman, sister Betty Plahs, stepbrother Charles Hubbard, step son-in-law Al Wilson, mother-in-law Grace Mardis, grandparents Mary and Harry Keller and Charles and Ella Sherman. We would like to extend a special thank you to Lisa Hughes and the staff of Woodcrest Senior Living and the doctors and staff of UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Oakland.
