June Matthews Obituary

June Albright Matthews, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on June 3, 1945, in Connellsville, the beloved daughter of the late George and Margaret Hennessy.

June was an alumna of Connellsville Area High School, class of 1963, and furthered her education at the Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1964. June began her career as a reservationist for United Airlines in Mount Lebanon, Pittsburgh. She later joined the workforce at the Volkswagen Plant, becoming one of the first women to do so. June worked there until its closure in 1988.

She was an avid reader, June always had a book in her hands, immersing herself in stories that spanned genres and worlds. Her love for her pets was equally evident, as she doted on her cats, dogs, and birds, each of them finding a special place in her heart and home. As a grandmother, she was affectionately known as "Mamoose," a testament to her unique and endearing place in the hearts of her grandchildren.

She found her life's companion in Harold E. Matthews, and together they built a family. June's legacy continues through her son Jay Scott Matthews, Sr. and his wife Michele; her loving daughter Jaylee Mathews and her husband Derek; her Son-in-law Michael “Bucky” Lattanzo; and her grandchildren Joshua Matthews and his fiancée Amanda, Christina Lattanzo-Lint and her husband Nick, Lewis Lattanzo and his wife Shawna, Jessica Welsh and her husband Justin, Jay Matthews, Jr. and his wife Chandler, Justine Ghai, Blake Mathews, Jordan Mathews, and Lainey June Mathews. Her great-grandchildren Ella, Cora, and Brooks Welsh, and Layken Lattanzo. Her siblings, John Albright, Joann Shipley, and Skip Kreinbrook.

In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her Daughter Jody Lattanzo who passed away November 28, 2022. June’s family takes great comfort in knowing they are together again.

June’s life was a beautiful journey that touched many. As we celebrate her life, we find comfort in knowing that her story does not end here. It continues in the laughter of her grandchildren, the strength of her children, and the countless memories cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
