Janet Fratto Obituary

The family of Janet E. (McFadden) Fratto, are mourning her passing on Friday, August 26, 2022.  She was 89 and died at home surrounded by her family and lovingly cared for by her daughters Janine and Patricia and son in law David.

Janet was born on January 24, 1933 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Evelyn Farmer and James R. McFadden. She had one sister, Marjorie Joan Geer who died in 2021. Her grandparents were the late Ida Belle and Alva Curtis Farmer. She married Joseph Fratto in 1953 and raised five daughters. Her husband, Joseph, died in 2001, after 47 years of marriage.

Janet is remembered as a warm and compassionate person who treated everyone with kindness and respect. She was a woman with a strong faith and a devout Catholic, faithfully attending Mass each week until she was not physically able. She lived a life devoted to her family. She had a close relationship with each daughter and was a best friend to each. All were honored to be her daughter and are heartbroken with her passing. She also had 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who were the greatest joys of her life. Quiet and unassuming, she said that all she ever wanted in life was to raise a family.

She didn’t enjoy travel but was always ready to go if it meant visiting her children or grandchildren. That meant spending many holidays in New York and Connecticut so that she could be with her youngest grandchildren.  She traveled to London for her daughter Mary’s wedding, Connecticut for her daughter Christa’s wedding and Boston for granddaughter Laura’s wedding. In late 2019, she “retired” and for the first time did not prepare the holiday meals for her large family. In recent years, she and her sister spent most days together, shopping and going out to lunch.

Janet is survived by her five daughters, Linda Schneider and her two children Laura Schneider (Michael Hsu) and Andrew Kemp; Janine Pierce (Greg) and their children Lauren Eisenman (Chad) and Lindsey (Brandon Wells); Patricia Woods (David) and their children Janet Tallerico (Robert) and Joseph Woods (Erin); Mary Rowe (Malcolm) and their children Cameron, Connor and Henry and Mo Nuhu of Ghana; and Christa Schwarz (Paul) and their daughter Julia. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Lily Hsu, Ava Eisenman, Sage Wells, Matthew Woods, and Nathaniel Tallerico.

Janet was also preceded in death by her son, Joseph Fratto, Jr. and beloved son in law, William Schneider.

Family and Friends of Janet, are cordially invited to The Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 416 South Broadway Street, Scottdale, Tuesday, August 30th at 11AM, with Fr. Elmer Alforque, as Celebrant.
