Jane Simmers Obituary

Jane E. Sheaffer Simmers, 97 of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 17, 2024, in her sleep, in the comfort of her home. Born on March 11, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. the daughter of the late Robert and Charolette E. Milligan Sheaffer.

Jane was a graduate of Hurst High School, shortly after graduation she happily married her High School sweetheart, Paul Simmers. She was employed by the Mt. Pleasant School District as a Bus driver for over 40 years.

Jane loved being outside on the family farm working and driving the tractor to help bale hay. While inside Jane and her mom (Dodo) were busy canning fruits, vegetables and meats they obtained from the farm. She loved playing cards (500 Bid, and crazy eights) with her family and friends. She also was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan; she loved watching all types of games on TV. Jane’s favorite past time was watching her grandchildren participate in their various sports; baseball, swimming, track, volleyball, archery, and 4-H horse competitions.

Jane had many hobbies, but Bowling was a huge part of her life, a duck pin league was started by the Julia Rebecca Lodge, consisting of 14 girls in the early 1950's. Jane was a proud Charter member of this league, which grew to 10 teams. They changed the name to the Roll-Ette Bowling League for the 1960-61 seasons. Jane also bowled in the Mon Valley duck pin league. Jane also bowled for several years in the Pittsburgh All Star League. Her accomplishments on the lanes include the first female to bowl a 600 in the newly opened Pleasant Lanes, her game was 612. Her all-time high game was 243, and high series of 636. As a WCWTL member, her team has won the high game and high series awards many times. She has also been the captain of the WCWTL team who have won six team championships. Her average is in the 170's. In addition to that she was also a Charter member of two other leagues, The Hillview Classic League 1961-62, and the Westmoreland County Women's Traveling League as she is the last Charter member still bowling in this league 1962 -63. Her hobbies outside of bowling consisted of Boccie, Swimming, Ceramics, and Reading.

Jane was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout her life. Jane was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her loving Children,

Robert P. Simmers and Wife Carletta of Mt. Pleasant

Sandra L. Sever and Husband Charles E. of New Stanton

Her Great Grandchildren:

Devin Simmers, Garet Simmers, Marek Simmers, Kali Simmers, Haili Simmers, Elijah Sever, James Sever, and Lexi Kifer

Along with several Nieces

Jane also had a special companion dog named Amber, that she loved dearly. 

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Simmers who passed away on February 14, 1981, Jane continued to embody the strength and resilience that characterized their life together. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Sheaffer

Family and Friends are cordially invited to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale on Sunday July 21, 2024, from 4-6 PM. Additional viewing will be held from 10:00 to10:45 on Monday July 22nd followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Bixel, of the Pennsville Baptist Church, officiating.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in the Scottdale Cemetery.
