James Butti Obituary

James Michael Butti, 75, died from complications of Multiple Myeloma on February 14, 2026, at 7:00 PM at UPMC East Intensive Care. Jim was born on July 14, 1950, in Elyria, Ohio to the late James and Margaret (Bodolay) Butti. Jim grew up in Wadsworth, Ohio and on August 4, 1973, he married Linda Kathleen Stalter. After leaving OH and Goshen, IN, they lived in Sarasota, FL for 10 years and then settled in Scottdale, PA for the next 39.5 years. Jim is survived by Linda, his wife of 52 years; one daughter, Gail (Doug) Peterson, Harrison City, PA; one son, Michael (Katherine Couchenour) Butti, Scottdale, PA; two brothers, Mark (Sandee) Butti, Mebane, NC and Tim (Lisa) Butti, Lordstown, OH; four grandchildren, Tranter Butti, Shayden Butti, Aemon Peterson, and Gillian Peterson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Butti. Jim was a member of Scottdale Mennonite Church and part of a music team. He played the saxophone, drums, and penny whistle that helped lead the congregation in meaningful worship. Jim’s love of music grew as a student in the Wadsworth Senior High School Marching Band where he graduated in 1968. Jim attended a branch campus of Kent State University for two years and transferred to Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio where he graduated in 1972 with a BA in Business. While in college, Jim was the Student Manager of Food Service. Jim then attended Ringling School of Art earning a 3-yr certificate in Graphic Design in 1979. He was employed by SEE Magazines and in 1986 became the Art Director for Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, PA. He continued in that position for 16 years until the design department was phased out and the business closed. Jim then worked at Quality Support in Scottdale as a packaging manager until his retirement in 2014. In 2013 Jim was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and spent 13 years valiantly fighting the disease. Despite illness, family was his priority, and he worked hard to be involved. Jim’s family will greet friends on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 4PM – 8PM in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683.
