Henry Lewandowski, Sr. Obituary

Henry J. “Andy” Lewandowski, Sr.  94, passed away peacefully at home in his beloved McClure, where he was a lifelong resident on Sunday evening, June 22, 2025, the son of the late Walter and Helen Fronczkowiak Lewandowski, of McClure. Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Cecilia Stepansky Lewandowski (February 2, 2024) and an infant daughter Janice, as well as brothers Leo, Vincent, Eugene, Clarence, Walter, Stanley and sisters Valaria, Esther and numerous brothers and sisters in law.

Henry was a graduate of Scottdale High School, excelling in sports, particularly football.  He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict and remained very patriotic all his life.  After returning from service, Henry began his career as a “water man” with the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County receiving countless service awards over his 43-year career.  Henry was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time in his hunting cabins “up north” with his family and friends.  He was a master “tinkerer” always working on some project in his garage. Henry had a long and active retirement, spending time with his son and grandchildren in garden tractor pulling competitions as part of the Lewandowski Pulling Team. But Henry’s favorite vacation destination was “Porchview” and could be found most days in his favorite chair watching the activities of the neighborhood. He was a man of few words, but “No” was the answer to most questions even before the entire question was asked.

Henry was a devout Catholic, and very proud of his Polish Heritage, belonging to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson as well as Transfiguration of Our Lord Polish National Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, and “attended” Mass on TV until his final days.

Henry is survived by his son, Henry Joe (Melinda) Lewandowski and daughter, Andrea (Tim) Grindle, who allowed Henry to remain in his own home throughout his illness, providing care. Henry’s greatest joys were his grandchildren: Stephanie and Patrick, and great granddaughters Raygan (Jonathan) and Quinn –“his little sweethearts”, and brother Robert (Patricia) Lewandowski, his sister-in-law, Patricia (Stanely), and numerous nephews, nieces, great and great-great nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to thank Dr. “Ned” Al-Fakih and staff, Penn Highlands ER and 3rd floor staff, Amedisys Home Care and Hospice, Scottdale-- wonderful nurses and aides, especially hospice aide Kylee, and special caregivers Rhonda, Libby, Connie and Nicole who took exceptional care of Henry. Thanks also to our family / friends who supported us on this road of dementia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transfiguration of Our Lord PNCC, Mt Pleasant, PA or St. Joseph RC Church, Everson PA.
