Harold Matthews, Jr. Obituary

Harold E. Matthews, Jr., passed away peacefully on the 19th of September 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 20, 1943, in Connellsville, the son of the late Harold and Madeline Trimbeth Matthews.

Harold was a graduate of Connellsville Area High School, Class of 1961, and furthered his education at California University.

Harold spent his professional career as an Emotional Support teacher at Jeannette Middle School, where he left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students. In his early years, Harold worked alongside his father doing excavation work for their business Matthews and Son Excavation.

Harold loved to ride Motorcycles in his spare time, along with doing autobody work, like painting vehicles. He was also an avid Steelers fan, who never missed watching a game, a trait he passed on to his late daughter, Jody.

Harold's legacy continues through his son Jay Scott Matthews, Sr. and his wife Michele; his loving daughter Jaylee Mathews and her husband Derek; his Son-in-law Michael “Bucky” Lattanzo; and his grandchildren Joshua Matthews and his fiancée Amanda, Christina Lattanzo-Lint and her husband Nick, Lewis Lattanzo and his wife Shawna, Jessica Welsh and her husband Justin, Jay Matthews, Jr. and his wife Chandler, Justine Ghai, Blake Mathews, Jordan Mathews, and Lainey June Mathews. His great-grandchildren Ella, Cora, and Brooks Welsh, and Layken Lattanzo.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his Wife, June Albright Matthews, who passed away on November 20, 2024, his Daughter Jody Lattanzo who passed away November 28, 2022 and his Sister Carol Lee Gardner who passed away on October 3, 2022. Harold’s family takes great comfort in knowing they are together again.

As we say goodbye to Harold Matthews, Jr., we celebrate a life that was full of purpose and joy. His journey may have come to an end, but the lessons he taught us and the love he shared will endure forever. May he rest in peace, knowing he was truly loved and will be eternally missed.
