Gerald P. “Rip” Stoner, 80, of Scottdale passed away early Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022, in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born February 21, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of the late Paul and Rosella Boyer Stoner.
Gerald was a longtime and a faithful member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale.
He attended the former St. John’s Parochial School and was a graduate Scottdale High School class of 1960.
He served in the United States Army from 1963-1966, with the Third US Army, HHC 3rd Brigade 101st Air Borne Division, during the Viet-Nam war. Jerry was the recipient of the Expert Badge (M-14 & M-16) National Defense Service Medal and the Aircraft Crewman Badge.
He was also a life member of Scottdale V.F.W. Post. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with his granddaughter, Emma “Pappy’s Girl”. Jerry was also an avid fisherman.
Jerry was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, to his family and a friend to many.
Gerald is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
His loving and Devoted wife of 48 years, Marilyn Baird Stoner, whom he married July 28, 1973.

Family and Friends of Jerry’s are cordially invited, Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4PM – 8PM to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683.
Prayers of Transfer will be offered Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the Funeral Home followed by his Funeral Mass, Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11AM in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale with his Pastor, Rev Elmer Alforque, as Celebrant.
Committal Services and Interment will follow in St. John Parish Cemetery, Scottdale.
Military Honors will be bestowed by the Perryopolis V.F.W. Post #7023, Monday at 7 PM at the Funeral Home.
