Clyde Stoner Obituary

Clyde R. Stoner, 78 of Scottdale, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, August 8, 2021 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born February 6, 1943 in Mt. Pleasant, the son of the late Clyde E. and Lorna Killinger Stoner.

Clyde was a Member and a Deacon of Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren.

He was a graduate of Scottdale High School Class of 1961. He earned his Journeyman papers thru Durametal of Irwin and was employed there for 10 years. He was a Machinist for 21 years for the Former Modulus Corp of Mt. Pleasant. He then retired from DME of Youngwood after 4 years of service.

He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 3 tours of service in Vietnam and attained the Rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer. He was the recipient of the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device,  (1960), National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, First Good Conduct Medal Award For Period ending March 11, 1968 and served on the U.S.S. Hoel (DDG13).

He founded the Scottdale Writer’s Group, where local writers enjoyed writing and publishing books throughout the community. He was proud to publish his own book, “The Survivor”.

He was also involved in the Kiwanis Club of Scottdale and the served on the board of the Scottdale Public Library as President for a number of years. Clyde was also a former council member for the borough of Scottdale, the Zoning Hearing Board and most recently served on the board of Civil Service Board in Scottdale as well.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing.

Clyde was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother to his family and a friend to all who knew him.

Clyde’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of his Family.

His loving wife of 55 years, Ruth C. Jones Stoner, whom he married February 19, 1966.

His Three Sons and Daughters-In-Law:

Michael K. Stoner and wife Bonnie of Beaver Falls

Stephen “Scott” Stoner and wife Brenda of Scottdale

Jeffrey E. Stoner and wife Denise of Front Royal, VA.

His Grandchildren:

Emily, Joshua and Kelsey Stoner

Trevor and Alayna Hughes

Luke Stoner

His Brother:

James “Jack” Stoner of Greensburg

Family and Friends are cordially invited to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc., 417 Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Wednesday where his Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM in the Funeral Home with his Pastor, Rev. Lee Smith, Officiating.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in Mt. Joy Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

Military Honors will be bestowed at the gravesite by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #446

In lieu of customary Remembrances, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Scottdale Public Library 106 Spring Street, Scottdale, Pa. 15683 in memory of Clyde.

The Funeral Home doors will be locked between visiting hours.
