Charles Shandorf, Jr. Obituary

Charles H. “Chuckie” Shandorf, Jr., age 79, of Connellsville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in St. Clair Hospital. He was born on August 30, 1946, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Adelaide M. Blackburn Shandorf. Chuck was the beloved husband of Doris Palmer Shandorf, whom he married on November 16, 1968. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on devotion, family, and shared years of memories. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, and Chuck took great pride in the family they built over the course of their life together. He was a devoted father to Christa Puskar and her husband Jeff of Everson, Valerie Baer and her husband Jason of Mt. Lebanon, and David C. Shandorf of Scottdale. Chuck cherished his children deeply and was happiest when surrounded by family. He was also a proud grandfather to Paige Leonard and husband Joseph, Jonathan, Nicholas and his wife Jessica Puskar, Jackson, Charlie, Abby, J.J. Baer, Lydia, and Benjamin Shandorf. In addition, he was blessed with great-grandchildren Henry, Joey, Cameron Leonard, and Ava Lynn Puskar, each of whom brought him great joy. He was also lovingly known to his special goddaughters, Becca Richter and Liz Shelky, who held a special place in his heart. Chuck is also survived by his siblings, Robert Shandorf and wife Karen of Connellsville, Dianne Fetsco and husband Francis of Little Summit, Mary Catherine Kendrish and husband John of Liesenring, and Raymond Shandorf and Diane Lewandowski of Everson, along with a number of nieces and nephews who will remember his strength. His Sister-in-Laws, Diane Levine and husband John of Ruffsdale and Denise Ohr and husband Jerry of Scottdale. His family was an important part of his life, and he remained close to them throughout the years. A graduate of Geibel High School, Class of 1964, Chuck carried the values of hard work and dedication throughout his life. He answered the call to serve his country and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army,101st Airborne Division where he served from 1965 to 1969. He also was trained as Airborne, military justice and non-judicial punishment. He was the recipient of the Parachute Badge and National Defense Service Medal and achieved the rank of SP5 before receiving an honorable discharge. Following his military service, Chuck worked as a union carpenter for more than 35 years. Carpentry was not just his occupation, but his true passion. He was known to his family as “McGyver” because he could make something out of anything, and he took great pride in using his hands and his imagination to solve problems and create lasting work. Even after retirement, he never stopped helping others, always finding jobs to do for close friends and family. His skill, resourcefulness, and willingness to lend a hand were among the many qualities that made him so admired. Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family above all else. He was an avid hunter, especially bird hunting, and also enjoyed golfing and watching Gunsmoke every day. Those who knew him will remember his warm spirit, his loving nature, and the friendly way he made others feel welcome. The Family would extend a Special Thank You Dr. Reyes and the nursing staff at the St. Clair Hospital Cancer Center for their care and professionalism that was shown to Chuck and his family. A gathering of friends will be held in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683 on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 2- 4PM & 6- 8PM. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 10AM in the Church of the Immaculate Conception,148 E. Crawford Ave. Connellsville, Pa. 15425 with Fr. Peter Guardiano as Celebrant. PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Committal Services and Inurnment will follow in St. John Parish Cemetery, Scottdale. Full Military Honors will be bestowed at the Gravesite by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post #446. The Funeral Home doors will be locked in between visiting hours.
