Carl J. Shawley

Carl J. Shawley, 87 a lifetime resident of Scottdale has gone home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 31, 2020. He was born February 23, 1933 at Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, PA.  He is the son of the late Charles and Blanche Shawley.  He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Carl was an ever faithful and devoted Christian and was a member of Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton, PA.  He loved his church and his church family.

He retired from the Mennonite Publishing House, Scottdale on February 27, 1998 with 44 years of service, as an assistant foreman in the composing room.   

Carl was a kind hearted, sweet, thoughtful, and loving father and pappy.

Carl is gone from his earthly home, but will forever remain in the hearts of his family and those who had the pleasure of knowing him.   

He greatest joys were spending time with his grandson, Nicky (as pappy called him) and taking ‘buggy rides’ in his car around Scottdale.

He is survived by his loving and devoted sons, Dr. Earl Shawley and wife Karen of Kylerstown, PA and James (Jim) Shawley and wife Michele of Scottdale, PA.

Seven grandchildren, Gary Miller and wife Mary Lou, Matthew Miller and wife Carri, Stephen Miller, Rachel (Shawley) Smith and husband Jay, Rebecca (Shawley) Heuser and husband Chris, and Nicholas (Nick) Shawley, Todd Shawley and SRA Micah J. Shawley, US Air Force.

 Nine great-grandchildren, Amelia, Alicia, and Jordan Smith, Laura, Brooke and Sadie Miller, Lena and Matthew Miller and Erika Miller.

Also, his loving nieces, Jane Fritzman, Marlene Lesemann, and Cecelia Garner.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by:

The love of his life, his wife Geraldine (Rugg) Shawley,  who passed away August 13, 1992.

His three sisters, Anna Bertha Shawley, Violet Marie Shawley, Esther (Shawley) Durst, and one brother, Joseph (Joe) Shawley and wife, Dorothy, daughter in law Donna (Kuhns) Shawley, and niece Janice Pyle.

Carl’s family cordially invites family and friends to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 from 2 -4PM & 6 – 8PM.

His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday at 11AM in the Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton, with his Pastor and friend, Lee Kline and his son Dr. Earl Shawley, officiating. Those attending the Funeral Service, please go directly to the Church.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

In following the CDC Guidelines, Masks are REQUIRED to enter the funeral home as well as the Church and practice social distancing.
