Barbara Yoder Obituary

Barbara J. "Jane" Yoder, a beacon of love and selflessness, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, in Mercy Hospital, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 86. Born on January 17, 1938, in Scottdale, the daughter of the late James C. and Rebena B. Robertson Hough. Jane's journey began in the heart of Scottdale where she grew up, embraced life's challenges, and blossomed into the remarkable woman many came to know and love. A proud graduate of Scottdale High School, Class of 1955. Jane was a great cook; she could make a recipe once and the next time she could add one or two ingredients and make it even better. The cornerstone of Jane's life was her beloved husband, Donald R. Yoder, whom she married, July 12,1956 in a heartfelt ceremony at the Christ United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Donald App. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with deep devotion and mutual respect. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Donald M. Yoder and his wife Diane of Scottdale, and David S. Yoder of Newtown Square, Pa. laying down strong family values and a legacy of love that would extend to their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jane's pride and joy were her grandchildren, Christian Lynn Carmichael and her husband Gregory, Donald Ryan Yoder and his wife Brittany, and James Douglas Yoder, all of whom she cherished deeply. Her great-grandchildren, Danica, Bentley, Daxton, Henley, Lilah Yoder, Nathan, Toby, and Kinomi Carmichael, brought immense happiness and a sense of continuity to her life. A woman of deep faith, Jane was a lifelong member of the former Christ United Methodist Church, Scottdale, contributing to its community through her involvement in the Co-Ed Sunday School Class and her dedication to church events. She was known for her yearly assistance at the church's famous baked potato booth during the Scottdale Heritage Festival and her unwavering support at the spaghetti dinners. Jane's love for life extended to her hobbies, which included golfing in the Don-E-Gals golf league and engaging in competitive card games, especially Bridge, with her monthly card club. Her unrelenting will, determination, and zest for life were matched only by her love for her family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Wendell Hough (1996), and sister Sharon Kay Hough Tynes (2016), Jane's legacy of love and faithfulness continues to inspire those she left behind. She was a woman whose life was characterized by loving actions, a faith-filled heart, and a selfless nature that put her family above all else. A Private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME, INC., 417 Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, with her former Pastor and Friend, Rev. Kathy Barnhart, Officiating followed by Inurnment in the Scottdale Cemetery. Scottdale, Pa. 15683. To view online obituary or to send online condolence, please visit www.kapr.com
