Barbara Jean Henry Munn, 88 of East Huntingdon Twp., passed away Sunday evening, July 16, 2023 at her daughter’s residence, while being comforted by her loving family. She was born August 21, 1934 in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late Clarence Irving and Lula Hammond Henry. Barbara was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Connellsville, where she was also a member of the choir. She was a graduate of the Coxsackie-Athens High School Class of 1952. Following graduation she enlisted in the U.S. Navy, November 1952. She was a proud Veteran of the Navy serving during Korean War in Washington D.C. in the Nuclear Submarine Program, while obtaining 3rd Class Petty Officer. While enlisted she was a Direct Secretary to Admiral Rickover USS Nautilus Nuclear Submarine project. She was the recipient of the American Korea Defense Medal. She was a retired employee of the Bureau of the employment security as administrative assistant with 16 years of service. Barbara passed away on National Ice Cream Day (July 16, 2023) which was her favorite food to eat, especially over the last months and her final days. Her daily routine consisted of eating breakfast and then moving on to Ice Cream for the rest of the day. She enjoyed ice cream dates with her daughter, Beth to local places for a Carmel Sundae with double Carmel or Peanut Butter Ripple. Barbara is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, Her loving and devoted Children: Timothy E. Munn and wife Jamie of Waynesburg Elizabeth M. “Beth” Byers and husband Scott of Scottdale Her 8 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild Her Siblings: Anita Mae Hill and husband Robert of Meadville Aleta Marie Sheckler and husband Richard of Meadville Alicia Mary Weston and husband Doug of Richmond, Va. Brad Adam Henry and wife Pat of Catskill, NY And Dinah Henry of Meadville And her Two Companions, Ginger and Angel who were always at her side. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: Her Husband of 38 years, Edward Charles Munn (July 22, 1993) Granddaughter: Amanda Munn Great Great Grandson: Clancy Jackson Munn Her Brothers: Richard Earl, Robert Leland, Asa, Bruce I., William L. and Brian C. Henry Her Sisters: Beatrice J. Monteverde and Beverly J. Quete The Family would like to give Special Thanks to Dr. Pluto and Medi Hospice for the wonderful care and professionalism that was given to Barbara during her time of need. Barbara has donated her body to Science thru Human Gift Registry. By making this donation, Barbara will be helping many others to learn about the human body, gain understanding of diseases and to develop new treatments. A Memorial Service followed by a lunch will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10AM in the Church of the Open Door, 1 Church Ave. Connellsville, Pa. 15425, with her Pastor Henry Powell, officiating. Barbara’s final arrangements have been entrusted to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683.
