Anthony Sabbers Obituary

Anthony Joseph “Ninnie” Sabbers, 90, a prominent Scottdale businessman, peacefully passed away at Forbes Regional Hospital, Saturday morning, May 7, 2022, while being comforted by his loving family.

He was born January 4, 1932, in Scottdale, a son of the late Joseph and Phyllis (Danca) Sabbers who died in 1990 and 1994.

He married Anna Mae (Humphrey) on February 4, 1970 and celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Ninnie was the proud owner of Ninnies Inc (former Club Lido) which operated for 40 years.  He also worked alongside his sister and brother-in-law as a salesman for Sandzimier Memorials, Inc.

Ninnie was an avid golfer and played football and basketball during high school and while in the Army in Germany.

Ninnie was a lifelong member of the Partner Parish of St John’s in Scottdale.  Ninnie proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 4345th Service Company, 18th Infantry Regiment in Germany from November 25, 1952 until October 28,1954. He was the recipient of the Occupational Medal, Germany and the National Defense Medal.

In addition to his Wife, Anna Mae Sabbers, Ninnie is survived by his nieces and nephews who were like children to him: Valerie (Dana) Eachus, Vivian Boyer (Bill), Diane (Dennis) Figg, M. John (Leah) Sandzimier, Jr., and Joseph (Valerie) Sandzimier. He was a kind and gentle man to his nieces and nephews who made them smile every time they saw him.

He is also survived by his great nieces and nephews who he loved dearly: Krista (Ryann), Mariann (Craig), Gina (Landon), Spencer, Ashlea (Gregory), Caitlin (Kristofer), Kirsty, Gretchen (Craig), Hillary (Colby), Johnathan, Lauren (Scott), Caitlin (Vinny), Morgan, Dylan, Giavanna, Eli, Mya, Nichollas, Naomy, and Baby Girl Kaplon due this month. 

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dolores Stile and her children, Carla (Matthew) Young and Brian Stile as well as his brother-in-law George (Rose) Humphrey and his daughters Debbie (Jeff) Reed and Dolores (Gary) Glantz and her children Tyler and Matthew.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Williams and Forbes Regional Hospital for the exemplary care, compassion and love that was shown to Ninnie and his family.  Ann also appreciates everything that Ninnie’s family did to take care of him and to allow him to pass peacefully.

He was preceded in death by his sister Josephine Sandzimier, on December 16th, 2021 and his brother-in-law Marion (Hootch) Sandzimier on November 5,2017 whom he loved dearly.

Ninnie’s family cordially invites family and friends to the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683 Thursday from 10AM – 3PM.

Parting Prayers will be held at 3PM Thursday, in the Funeral Home, with his Funeral Mass to follow in The Partner Parish of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson with his Pastor, Rev. Elmer Alforque, as Celebrant.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Everson, with Full Military Honors accorded at the gravesite by the Everson Scottdale Veterans Association.

In lieu of customary remembrances, Ninnie’s family requests memorial donations for Ninnie to be made to St. Joseph's Church in Everson and mailed to 416 S Broadway, Scottdale, PA 15683.
