Thomas S. "Rook" Konieczny, 85 of Mt. Pleasant Road, Mt. Pleasant died Early Saturday Morning September 24, 2005 at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
He was born January 14, 1920, in Everson, PA a son of the late Thomas and Mary Chmielewski Konieczny.
Thomas was a lifetime member of St. Joseph RC Church, Everson.
He was a coal miner with Eastern Associate Coal Co. of Hunker with 27 years of service and was also employed by the former Bortz Co. of Tarrs with 14 years of service.
Thomas was a veteran of the US Army serving with the 29th division during WWII and attaining the rank of Private First Class. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with One Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was selected as a MP for General Eisenhower at the England Embassy.
He was a 60 year member of the Everson VFW Post 595 and the United Mine Workers Local 8123.
Thomas was an avid Gardner and Hunter and also enjoyed the game of golf.

Thomas was the last survivor of his immediate family.

Two Sisters: Gladys Hamborsky and Dorothy Johnson
One Brother Edward and a sister in infancy
Thomas' Family will greet friends in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
A Blessing Service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 AM in the Funeral Home followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 AM in St. Joseph RC Parish Church, Everson
Committal Services and Internment will follow in St. Joseph Parish Cemetery, Everson with full military honors accorded at the gravesite by the Southmoreland Veterans Association.
