JOHN W. "JAY" BASINGER of Brown Street, Everson, died unexpectedly early Friday morning, August 22, 2003 in his residence at the age of 82.
He was born in Everson, October 20, 1920 a son of the late John A. and Irene Harshman Basinger.
John's memberships consisted of the Scottdale VFW Post 7781, Bridgeport Hunt Club and the Mt Pleasant and Scottdale Firemans Clubs
He was a veteran of WW II serving with the US Army during World War 2 in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns, with the 28th Division, 110th Infantry. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received at Sigfurt Line while invading Germany under the command of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhowser, September 15, 1944. He was also the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal and American Defense Service Ribbon and attained the rank of Tech 5.
John is survived by his two brothers and two sisters:
Lloyd Basinger of Greensburg
Ruth Anastasia and her husband Robert of Connellsville
Betty Basinger and Jerry Basinger both of Everson with whom he resided.
Also a number of nieces and nephews

Brother: Howard Earl Basinger who died December 10, 1970
Sister: Pearl French Stoner who died June 22, 1996
Brother: Paul Basinger who died in 2001
Private Funeral Service will be held Saturday in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc., 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale, with the Rev. George Rath Jr. officiating.
Private committal services and Interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery, Scottdale.
