Felix Zaffina Obituary

Felix Zaffina, 87 a prominent Scottdale businessman, died peacefully Sunday evening June 26, 2011 at his residence in Scottdale surrounded by his loving and devoted family.
 
Felix was born August 3, 1923 in Kingview a son of the late Frank (Francesco) A. and Frances S. Stella Zaffina who passed away June 29, 1978 and July 23, 1992 respectively.
 
Felix was a devout Catholic and faithful member of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Scottdale,  where he served as an usher for many years and a member of  former Holy Name Society of the Church. He was also a member of The Catholic Knights of Columbus.
He received his education in the Scottdale High School. Following his schooling he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 3165th Signal Co. in Saipan and Hawaiian Islands for 30 months. He was the recipient of the WW II Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star and The Good Conduct medal. He was honorable discharged December 15, 1945 attaining the rank of CPL. Following his military service, Felix began his Beer Distributorship in Scottdale/Kingview beginning in 1947 to the present as owner and operator. Additionally he served on the board of directors of Malt Beverage Distributors Association of PA.
 
Felix was a member of various local organizations to numerous to mention. He was the founding member of Upper Tyrone Water Authority where he served on the Board Of Directors for many years.
 
Felix leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Frances T. Marhefka Zaffina whom he married May 22, 1954.
 
His Daughter and three sons:

Felix A. Zaffina, Jr. and his wife Kelly of Lower Burrell
Maurice Zaffina and his wife Paula of Greensburg
Edwin Zaffina and his wife Barbara of Scottdale
 
His seven Grandchildren:
Maurissa Zaffina
Laura Lee Zaffina
Macey Zaffina
Marcus Zaffina
Reno Zaffina
Edwin Zaffina, Jr.
Kylie Zaffina
 
His three sisters:
Theresa Marhefka of New Stanton
Angeline Blackburn of Scottdale
Catherine Kiliany of Scottdale
And a number of Nieces and Nephews
In addition to his parents, Felix was predeceased by:
Two brothers: Frank Zaffina (1926)
Francis “Frank” Zaffina (September 2, 2006)
 
Felix’s family will greet friends in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.
 
A blessing service for Felix will be held Thursday at 9:30 am in the funeral home followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 am in the Church of St. John the Baptist, Scottdale, with his Pastor, The Rev E. George Saletrik as Celebrant.
 
Committal services and interment will follow in St. John the Baptist RC Cemetery, Scottdale with full military honors accorded at the gravesite by the Southmoreland Veterans Association Honor Guard.
 
St. John's  Ministry of Consultation will conduct a memorial service Wednesday at 12:45 PM in the Funeral Home.
 
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to St. John the Baptist RC Church, 416 South Broadway Street, Scottdale 15683 in memory of Felix Zaffina.
