Chris W. Shallenberger, Jr., 82, of Scottdale died unexpectedly Saturday morning, March 17, 2018, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, shortly after arrival.

He was born in Connellsville, August 8, 1935 a son of the late Chris W. and Pauline Fullem Shallenberger, Sr.

Chris was a longtime and faithful member of the Scottdale Church of Christ.

He was a retired mechanic with Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation of Westmoreland County with 12 years service. Previously, he had been employed as a mechanic by the former Wicker Trucking of Scottdale and the former Kelly Pontiac also of Scottdale.

Chris  was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army serving with Service Company 110th Infantry as a PrivateE-2.  Chris then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict with the 1936th AACS Squad attaining the Rank of Air Man 2nd Class.

Chris was a longtime member of Marion Lodge No.562 Free And Accepted Masons, also The Scottish Rite of Uniontown.

Chris was an Honorary Member of the Scottdale Volunter Fire Department, where he always had time to repair their Pumpers and was on a Team that placed the First used Aerial Truck in Scottdale on the road  

In his spare time, Chris enjoyed wood working in his shop at home.

Chris was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother to his family and a friend to all who knew him. He was always known by his warm handshake and his friendly smile

Chris is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

His loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Patricia Diane Samuelson, whom he married February 4, 1956.

 Steven Shallenberger and his wife Beth

Mandy Schnorr and her husband Matt

And his Thirteen Great Grandchildren whom he loved very much.

In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by:

Two Brothers” Charles Shallenberger (Mar. 17, 2006) & Bennie Shallenberger ( 1982)

His Sister: Gerry Clem

 And his Daughter – In- Law: Patsy Shallenberger (2005)

Chris’s family will greet friends in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale Tuesday from 2 – 4PM & 6 – 8PM.

Additional Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10AM – 10:45AM in the Scottdale Church of Christ where his Funeral Service will begin at 11AM with Bob Chambers, Officiating.

Please, everyone go directly to the Church Wednesday morning.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery.

The Southmoreland Veterans Association Honor Guard, will conduct Military Honors, Tuesday at 6:00PM at the Funeral Home

Marion Lodge No. 562 Free and Accepted Masons, will conduct a Memorial Service at 7 PM Tuesday in the Funeral Home.
