Regis Melego Obituary

Regis D. Melego, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on January 6, 1937, in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, Regis was a man whose kindness, selflessness, and faith-filled spirit touched the hearts of many throughout his meaningful life. He departed this world in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family and community.

Regis was a devoted husband to Marlene A. Hostoffer Melego, whom he married on July 20, 1963, in a union that flourished with love and companionship. He was a cherished father to his daughter, Merriann M. Grant, and her husband, Mac, of Greensburg. His granddaughters, Alexandra F. Grant Lux, Ph.D., and her husband, Thomas, of Redwood City, California, and Marlee K. Grant of Irvine, California. Numerous Nieces and Nephews


He is survived by his brother, Lawrence Melego and his wife, Eleanor, of Mt. Pleasant and Sister-in-Law,  Shirley Melego of Ohio. Regis was predeceased by his parents, Albert Melego, Sr., and Anna Blasko Melego, his brothers, Eugene, Albert Melego, Jr. and his sister law, Lorretta Melego.


Regis's educational journey began at East Huntingdon Twp High School, where he graduated with the class of 1955. His career path led him to become a skilled meat cutter, a trade he mastered during his nine years at Kraisingers' Market, Mt. Pleasant. He later dedicated 40 years of service to the Krystyniak family and Shop N Save, where he was well-respected and admired by colleagues and customers alike.

His service extended beyond his professional life; Regis served in the PA National Guard from January 24, 1959, until December 7, 1961, and was honorably discharged and attained the Rank of Sergeant (E5).

Regis was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale, where he was known for his work at the St. John Fish Frys, delighting many as the Master Fryer for numerous years.

Regis's zest for life was evident in his diverse interests. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, and he was so proud of having the opportunity to try out as a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his younger years, he showcased his athletic prowess by playing for various baseball teams in the area. His love for the open road was fulfilled on his Harley Davidson, a passion that gave him a sense of freedom and adventure.

A man of many talents, Regis also had a deep love for mapping. He found joy in meticulously planning trips for family and friends, ensuring every journey was as smooth as possible. His musical tastes were eclectic, spanning from country to oldies and bluegrass, and his love for music often filled the rooms of his home with melody and rhythm.

Family and Friends of Regis are cordially invited on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 1- 4PM – 6 – 8PM in the Frank Kapr Funeral Home, Inc. 417 Pittsburgh St. Scottdale, Pa. 15683.

Prayers of Transfer will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 9:30AM with his Funeral Mass to follow at 10AM in the Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Scottdale.

Committal Services and Interment will follow in St. John’s Parish Cemetery with full Military Honors by the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post # 446

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that Memorials, with gratitude, be made to St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 416 S. Broadway Scottdale, Pa. 15683 OR to St. Anne Home at 685 Angela Dr. Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
